Competitions

What better way of getting people involved than to run competitions and workshops! Last year we had some great entrants for our Christmas Tree and Poetry competitions. Please see the information below and enter as early as you can.

All entrants will be displayed in various locations through town on the 10th December.

CHRISTMAS TREE COMPETITION

​

The Christmas Tree Competition will take place at Rye’s Baptist Church, Cinque Ports Street, Rye, TN31 7AN on Saturday 10 December 2016.

 

Local schools, clubs, charities, shops, and businesses are invited to take part in the competition by decorating a small Christmas Tree (maximum 3 feet). This year, the competition is open to residents too. The best tree in each category will receive a special prize. 

 

The trees might be inspired by this year theme of the ‘Tales of Old’.

There will be no access to electricity so your tree must not require access to mains electricity.

Christmas trees should be delivered to the Baptist Church on Friday 9 December between 3pm and 5pm and collected on Monday 12 December between 10am and 12pm.

N.B. For groups and businesses:

You may decide to theme the tree appropriate to your organisation. This is an opportunity to advertise your club / organisation. You can bring brochures, business cards etc to be displayed by your tree.

OLD TALE WRITING & ART COMPETITON
​

Children of all ages (0-99+) are invited to enter our Old Tale Competition. 

 

You can enter a poem or even a tale of your own. What about rewriting one tale, changing the ending? You can enter a drawing or a sculpture too. 

 

The winning entries will be displayed on the day of the event for all to see at St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye.

 

The stories and artistic creations might be inspired by this year theme of the ‘Tales of Old’.

'MAGIC OF 'RYE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION​
​

What makes Rye magic to you?

Is it a person, a place, a building, a view, an object or something else?

​

Please enter your 'Magic of Rye' photo into our competition.

Age groups:

​

Up to 11 years

11-17 years

18 and over

 

There will be one winner for each age category and the entries will be judged by a panel of local photographers.

​

Instructions:

​

- Take your photo as either landscape or portrait

- Please ensure your photo is a good quality and if using a phone please check the resolution is sufficient for printing.

- Please write your name on the reverse of the photo.

- Print your photo out at 8 x 6" on photo paper.

- Download and complete the entry form below and bring it along with your printed photo to the Baptist Church on Cinque Ports Street on Friday 9th December between 15:00-17:00 for Caroline.

The winners will be announced by the Mayor during the Mayor’s Speech at the George, High Street, Rye at 5.15pm on Saturday 10 December 2016.

WINDOW DRESSING COMPETITION​
​

This year, we are inviting all local shops and businesses to decorate their window and to enter our window competition.

 

We encourage you to dress your window up following one of the Old Tales as part of this year’s theme. For more information, please visit our embrace the theme page here.

The windows will be judged by a panel made of local artists and decorators. 

​

The winners will be announced by the Mayor during the Mayor’s Speech at the George, High Street, Rye at 5.15pm on Saturday 10 December 2016.
